Same four walls, same routine, day in day out. Purely conjecture but it must be like hell to be a "hardcore" Melee fan. I haven't seen say Street Fighter fans modding SFV extensively just so it be more like Third Strike. And it's only been this kind of fighting game fandom that's produced it to this degree. My point if you care to listen to it is simply this.Īt this point this would be called "obsession", and it's worrying. It's just easier to get into and have fun, while still being sufficiently deep enough for pros to find enjoyment in it. It makes up for this with being more mind-game-heavy and tactical, rather than speed-based and hitstun-reliant.Īs someone who loves both games despite not being of a professional level in either, I prefer Smash 4 due to its emphasis on being a thinking man's fighter more than a speedy man's fighter. Smash 4, while not filled with techs like Wavedashing, still has its own fair share of techniques, with the difference being that 99% of them don't require insane reflexive skill or training, physically or mentally, to pull off consistently, and most anyone can train to become adequate in them.

It's the kind of game where those born with naturally faster fingers/reflexes/mental-reaction-speed will always have a higher advantage than those born without it, regardless of training level, and hitstun is the go-to for any sort of kill set-up, with most slower characters, like my main Link, or Bowser, DK, Ganondorf, etc, being at a severe disadvantage against any other character with a higher amount of speed inherent to them. IMO, Melee is a faster-paced and more reflex-leaning game, rather than sharper or more technical. TLDR of my post: Melee = for speed lovers with natural-born fast mental/physical reflexes/reaction speeds, Smash 4 = for those that want a more balanced thinking-man's Smash, that requires more planning ahead than out-speeding the opponent.
